April 26 – Celebrations

I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. Psalm 102:7
As lonely as it is to mourn alone or to suffer bad news alone, most of us have experience with it in some form.  I won’t deny it burdens the heart.

But what about the good news, the triumphs, the accomplishments when there isn’t anyone around who cares or will celebrate with you?  This is also a profoundly lonely feeling, when there is no one to celebrate with.

Celebrating with someone, listening to their happy news and responding with a heartfelt “good work!” is something most of us don’t really see as a blessing.  Take the time to listen to someone recount a triumph, even if you think you’ll be bored.  Take the time to hear someone’s good news.  Take the time to celebrate with them.

It is a blessing to share good news with someone who cares.

  • I jotted "Happy Birthday" on a note card and held it for a regular customer. It was four days before I saw him again. His father had suffered a stroke the day before my customer's birthday and no one remembered his day. The only card he received was from me and he told me how much he appreciated it.
